Centrifugal Casting

Cylinder liners are considered one of the most highly stressed structural elements of an engine. Therefore their fabrication requires a high degree of metallurgical know-how, as well as mastery of materials conditioning – concerning especially the production of the blanks.

The development and perfection of the grey cast procedure is a continuous

process in which we were engaged for many years. The fabrication of our cylinder liners from alloyed lamellar graphite grey cast ensures distinguished mechanical properties and is demonstrated by excellent abrasion resistance.

The cast production takes place in a mid-frequency skillet furnace. The optimum castchanneling and compliance to chemical analysis are monitored by computer and permanent sample taking.

Both digital temperature testing method and the experience of our smelters help us detect the perfect tapping- and casting time. Depending on the customer requirement we can smelt different alloys.

The cast is poured into a rotating mould and congeals under the effect of centrifugal force. That generates a high-tight homogeneous structure, which is not impurified by contraction cavities, inclusions or blow holes. So the basis for a clean and absolutely pressure tight material structure is already created in the process of casting.

Conditioning

Smoothing:

The outer conditioning of the centrifugal cast blanks proceeds on modern cnc lathes.
Plane parallelism and concentricity are assured through machining in a chucking. Afterwards, these parameters are measured competently.

Pressure test:

The pressure test is part of the process integrated quality assurance system. The pressure resistance of the cylinder liners is verified on a testing bay with a pressure of 10 bar (145 psi). Pressure of up to 120 bar (1740 psi) on customer request.

Milling:

The range of our products is vastly extended by using 5-axle cnc turning lathes, for complicated milling operations as well as deep-countersinking take an increasing part of machining operations.

Honing:

We have access to several honing machines on which we can hone cylinder liners with inner diameters from 130 mm up 600 mm (5 to 24 inches). We can compile customer requirements on optimum running characteristics of the used pistons as requested.
Through production of the liners entirely in our company, we are able to respond flexibly regarding delivery times - even on small batch sizes.

Quality assurance

In our company-owned laboratory the verification of the achieved parameters takes place. Chemical properties, tensile strength, hardness of the material and bending strength are ascertained, using computer-assisted analysis.
The structure of graphite allocation is verified both qualitative and quantitative. Special advertence is put on the compliance of geometrical measurements and surface relating requirements.
Documentation can be provided in accordance with customer requirements and by classification bodies.
